What house sliding on the Gold Coast actually involves

The Act's definition lists building, repairing, altering, underpinning, moving or demolishing a building or other structure, and makes all building work assessable unless a regulation makes it accepted development. The City of Gold Coast says building approvals are issued by private building certifiers, not Council. Whether a particular slide or relocation is accepted development is for a certifier to say, so ask before you agree a date.

Where a house is on the heritage register

The City Plan treats a local heritage place differently. It makes building work that involves the complete or partial demolition, relocation or removal of a local heritage place impact assessable, and building work that does not involve those things code assessable. The City says local heritage places are those recognised for their cultural heritage significance to the Gold Coast and entered on the Gold Coast Local Heritage Register. This page does not say whether yours is on it.

The Queensland Development Code's flood standard, MP 3.5, lists the relocation of a class 1 building among the building work it applies to, where a local government has declared a defined flood level for the flood hazard area the work is in (Table 1 and section 3, version 1.1, published 12 December 2013). Ask the provider which permits the move needs, who applies for them and how long they say each takes, and get it in the written contract.
